An old firm charity match is set to take place this weekend in memory of a Glasgow teen who lost her life in 2020.

Lauren Reid was a 19-year-old gers-daft chef from Dennistoun, who died after a flare-up of asthma led to a cardiac arrest.

Following Lauren's passing, mum Elaine Cunningham, 47, has launched the campaign, Lauren's Law, to ensure emergency access to inhaler kits is made available in commercial food premises.

Elaine, 47, told the Glasgow Times: "I'm excited for the day and will be nervous about it because it's Lauren's day.

"I just deal with things day by day, and I'll do the same on the day, but I'm very humbled by it all and the support so far.

"We have big TikTok stars coming along like Leeanne Orr, comedian Gary Faulds and a bunch of verified, professional and semi-professional footballers like Gary Fraser, and Kenny MacKay.

"There will also be loads of food like soup and hot dogs, face painting and some music too from our very own Craig."

Glasgow Times:

Elaine and Craig, 31, only recently became acquainted after Craig wrote a song in Lauren's honour and released it on TikTok.

With over 60 million views on the platform already, the song has taken social media by storm and become somewhat of a viral hit.

Craig said: "The song was just meant to be some kind of chant or something in Lauren's memory. I wrote it after seeing Elaine's post and I wanted to get involved and write something.

"I'm really looking forward to the match though and seeing everybody as well as seeing it all come together. We are just so humbled by the support."

Elaine added: "The song is Lauren's song forever and just explains exactly what went on and how she passed.

"The words are just amazing, and I was crying and shivering when I heard it.

"After seeing the song, one woman who was at a child's party reached out to me saying she gave an unopened and unused inhaler to a child whose parent was running around frantically after the child couldn't breathe properly.

"I told her well done and that she had saved that child's life but she messaged me back saying no, Lauren's Law saved that child's life.

"That to me is amazing, that my little girl is saving other children's lives."

Glasgow Times:

The funds raised from the match will go towards an initiative of Elaine's called 'Lauren's Lodge'.

Elaine said: "The whole point of this match is to raise funds for the lodge.

"It will be a caravan where someone can just have a break on me. People can come out of the hospital after a severe asthma attack and have a break and some respite and fresh air on us.

"This, for me, is a final goal. I'm sure it will take a long time, but it will keep me busy, as well as my mental health."
