15 Ollie Smith Did everything he could to prevent Baptiste Serin from touching down, and was possibly unlucky that the scrum-half was awarded the game’s opening try. 7 out of 10

14 Sebastian Cancelliere Policed the dangerous Cheslin Kolbe very well at times and came close to creating a first-half try with a clever kick through. Crossed lines with Smith denied his team a much-needed score early in the second half, but scored a late consolation try. 7

13 Huw Jones Rarely got a chance to link up with Tuipulotu and create the sort of damage for which the centre partnership has become renowned. Knock-on in the second half ended one of the Warriors’ most promising attacks. 7

12 Sione Tuipulotu Outfoxed by the Toulon attack for Sergio Parisse’s try, the second of the night. He was increasingly prominent as a ball-carrier as the game wore on, but was uncharacteristically error-prone. 7

11 Kyle Steyn The captain defended well in the air at times, and after having few chances to show his prowess as an attacking force for the first 50 minutes and more, he did brilliantly to score his team’s first points of the game with a mazy run. Added a second in the dying minutes. 8

10 Domingo Miotti The Argentinian stand-off - in the starting line-up because Tom Jordan was suspended - had little front-foot possession to make use of and gave way to Stafford McDowall early in the second half. 6

9  George Horne Improvised really well in attack at times, especially with a kick over the top in the first half that might well have produced a try. Converted Steyn’s try after his shift to the wing. 7

1 Jamie Bhatti Under pressure in the set piece along with the rest of the Warriors pack, but worked hard in the loose to try to stem the French tide before being subbed off early in the second half. 6

2 Fraser Brown Showed his creative side with an early between-the-legs pass and went on to perform the less glamorous tasks with his customary commitment. Lost ball forward deep in Toulon half at one point in first half and struggled at times to find his jumpers in the lineout. 6

3 Zander Fagerson The tighthead prop was under pressure in the scrum from the powerful French pack and knocked on very close to the Toulon line in the first half. He began to get on top in the set piece towards half-time, but was among the first batch of Warriors players to be substituted five minutes into the second half. 6

4 JP du Preez A surprise starter at lock instead of Richie Gray, the South African conceded an early penalty for offside only for Serin to send the kick off target. 6

5 Scott Cummings Put in some vital defensive work deep in his own half in the first quarter as Toulon threatened to take control of the game 7

6 Matt Fagerson One of many Glasgow players who were outshone by their in-form opponents, the blindside flanker nonetheless kept battling away long after the game had got away from his team. 7

7 Sione Vailanu Lost the ball forward in the Warriors’ first sustained attack of the game, but as usual got through a lot of valuable work at the breakdown 7

8 Jack Dempsey An increasingly influential figure in the first half as Glasgow tried to fight back from three scores down. Kept up the work rate well after the break for little or no reward. 7

Simon Berghan Off the bench five minutes into the second half along with his two front-row colleagues and McDowall as head coach Franco Smith looked for a momentum shift. 

Johnny Matthews Replacement hooker was relieved when a Charles Ollivon ‘try’ off his throw-in was chalked off for offside.

Stafford McDowall On at stand-off for Miotti early in the second half.

Ali Price Came on for Cancelliere but went to scrum-half with Horne moving to the wing. Laid on scoring pass for Steyn try which briefly gave Glasgow hope.

Richie Gray Came on - arguably far too late - for last quarter-hour.

Lewis Bean Joined Gray at lock for final 15 minutes.

Rory Darge Late sub helped inject a little extra life into his side.
