The chair of Scotland’s largest Tottenham Hotspur supporters’ group has urged his fellow fans in England to give Ange Postecoglou time to prove himself.
The Australian is set to take over at Spurs after delivering a historic treble for Celtic with Saturday’s Scottish Cup triumph over Inverness Caley Thistle.
The news has been met with a mixed response south of the border, with some vocal supporters questioning whether the job in London is too big for someone with Postecoglou’s background in the game.
But, with the benefit of local knowledge of the Scottish Premiership, and the rebuilding job Postecoglou needed to carry out on his arrival at Parkhead two years ago, James Robertson of Glasgow Spurs is fully on board with the appointment.
The season-ticket holder said: “I can only speak on behalf of myself and not the other members of the club but, in my position as chairman of Glasgow Spurs, I think it’s a fantastic appointment.
“Some of the dissenting voices may be coming from people who don’t put as much value on the Scottish game as I think they should do.
“These same supporters were seemingly happy with Arne Slot coming [from Feyenoord] as an option.
“When you compare the two side by side, there’s no doubting Ange Postecoglou has achieved much more across various different leagues than Slot has.
“When Ange was being appointed up here, there was also a section of the Celtic support that was quite vocal in their disapproval.
“But I don’t have any concerns in terms of his skills and ability to be a manager and do well at Spurs.
“If he can bring attacking football back to Spurs, when we’ve been playing defensive and counter-attacking for the last four years, which was terrible to watch, then he’ll quickly win over those fans.
“But the fans need to give him that chance.
“As long as he’s playing attractive, attacking football, he might not win every game but if he can show something different then that will buy him a lot more time.”
