Tottenham have continued their summer revamp of their footballing operations with a new academy director appointed.

Simon Davies has been named in the role after serving for a year as head of methodology at the club.

And the change could see Davies work closely with Ange Postecoglou to help youth players progress into the first-team.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy had cited Postecoglou's understanding of the "importance of the link from the academy" and reputation for developing players upon his arrival.

Levy had commented:  “Ange brings a positive mentality and a fast, attacking style of play. He has a strong track record of developing players and an understanding of the importance of the link from the academy - everything that is important to our Club.

"We are excited to have Ange join us as we prepare for the season ahead."

Now, the move to promote Davies to the academy director role could mean working alongside Postecoglou as part of the new regime at Spurs.

Davies previously worked at the Manchester City academy before assisting Vincent Kompany at RSC Anderlecht for three years.

A club update confirmed: "We are delighted to announce that Simon Davies has been appointed as Academy Director.

"Davies, who was captain of the famous 1992 Youth Team at Manchester United, has vast experience of the Academy system having begun his coaching career as a Youth Coach at Chester City before joining Manchester City’s Academy in 2010.

"Simon worked across different levels of the Academy during an eight-year period in Manchester, including the Under-23s where he worked alongside Patrick Vieira before taking over the position as Lead Coach himself, and subsequently Head of Coaching for the Academy.

"Simon left City in the summer of 2019 to join Belgian side RSC Anderlecht where he held the position as Assistant Coach to Vincent Kompany, before joining us as Head of Methodology for the Academy in July 2022."
