Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has issued a transfer update, indicating that the club will look to do more business this summer.

Rodgers was interviewed live on Sky Sports, where he gave an assessment of the business done so far in terms of transfers, as well as what he hopes to do for the remainder of the window.

He said: "I will work with the club on that. I think that the players that have come in over the past couple of years – Mark Lawwell who is head of the recruitment team here - has done a fantastic job.

"It’s a market that he knows really well from his previous job so he understands the players but he's also got a really good team of people behind him, so I trust in their work.

"Of course, they’ll always be put forward to me and I’ll have a look at it, but some of those players were identified before I came in so it's all about giving my blessing. Some have been identified whilst I’m in so just a continuation of working together."

There have been rumours that Celtic may splash the cash in terms of marquee signings, but Rodgers was quick to end speculation of that potentially transpiring.

"We want to improve the squad. Everyone looks and thinks that we might be bringing in a £15-20 million pound player," he commented.

"The reality is that won't be the case. It's not where the club is based on but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t talented players out there there's still quite a way to go in the window and we’ll look to improve the squad again and continue with that."

"I think (transfers) always have to fit in with the model of the club which is important. As a modern manager in the modern game, it's very very difficult to do what you maybe did years and years ago.

Meanwhile, Celtic will play Kilmarnock in the second round of the Viaplay Cup.

Brendan Rodgers' side enter the competition at this stage and were seeded for the draw.

Celtic were drawn out the hat as an away team to visit Rugby Park in the last 16.

The match will be played on the weekend of August 19/20.
