Ange Postecoglou suffered a major blow to his trophy hopes this season as his Tottenham side were knocked out of the EPL Cup.

Fulham prevailed in the second-round tie on penalties at Craven Cottage.

The former Celtic boss had hoped to go far in the competition given it's the first available silverware on offer in England.

But he watched on in West London as Spurs fell short at the first hurdle.

The game finished 1-1 in the all-Premier League encounter. Micky van de Ven scored an own goal in the early stages of the game before Richarlison equalised in the second half.

It was the hosts who snuck through 5-3 on penalties though, with no extra time in play for this stage of the League Cup. 

Postecoglou has enjoyed a flying start to life as Spurs manager. 

He led his side to a 2-2 draw at Brentford on the opening weekend of the season before consecutive 2-0 victories over Manchester United and Bournemouth.

He's been without Harry Kane too, who was sold to Bayern Munich on the eve of his bow as a Premier League boss.

Daniel Levy is hopeful Postecoglou can deliver trophies at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium given his track record previously in his career.

At Celtic, he lifted five out of the six trophies available to him during his two years in Glasgow.

Meanwhile, Celtic midfielder Matt O'Riley is reportedly attracting transfer interest from the English Championship.

It's claimed the 22-year-old has emerged as a possible target for Leeds and Southampton.

The two clubs are plotting ambitious returns to the Premier League at the first time of asking after relegation last season.

And the Scottish Sun reports that both clubs are showing an interest in the Danish under-21 cap.

It comes after a bid from Bologna was reportedly booted out by Celtic for O'Riley last week.

It's thought Leeds boss Daniel Farke could swoop for O'Riley after moves for Nadiem Amiri and Kenny McLean were unsuccessful.

Farke couldn't land Amiri while a £4m move for McLean was thrown out by Norwich.
