Scott Brown would be an ideal appointment for Hibernian.

That's the viewpoint of former Easter Road manager Alan Stubbs.

The former Hibs and Celtic captain is currently Fleetwood Town boss. The 38-year-old has been in the position since the summer of 2022.

With his former club on the lookout for a new boss following the sacking of Lee Johnson Sunday, a return to Scotland could tempt him.

And Stubbs is confident Brown would be more than capable of handling the intense pressures of being in charge at Hibs.

He told Lucky Block: "I think Scott Brown’s a great shout. He’s gone to Fleetwood which had aspirations of being right in amongst promotion and aren’t afraid to spend on young upcoming players and sell them on for profit.

“The biggest thing for Scott at the moment is with the owner, who is currently out of the picture after what’s been going on behind the scenes with his financial issues. 

“But I think he’s a great shout and a talented up-and-coming manager. He has had a good first managerial role with Fleetwood where he has steadied the ship. He is proving that management is for him, and I can see him being a good fit at Hibs along with David Gray and whoever he would want to bring in.

“If I ever did think about becoming a manager again then Hibs would be one of the clubs that I would seriously consider - but I’m not looking along that route. Unless I get a phone call, which I don’t envisage, I won’t be putting my name forward. 

“I know Neil (Lennon) has put his name in but I’m not sure the club want to go back along that route. I think the people involved will have to ask the players their thoughts as well to see if he left on good terms which could help him, whereas if he hasn’t then it could go against him.

“If I’m being honest, I wasn’t surprised that Hibs came to the decision. They didn’t finish off the end of last season well and the result against Aston Villa didn’t help. It was always going to be a difficult night but it’s the last game that Lee Johnson needed at that time. Saturday’s result was disappointing as well. 

“It didn’t help (his relationship with fans) and his ties with Hearts meant it was always going to be difficult. I never really felt from day one that he was welcomed with open arms at Hibs. When you do have a tricky period, having that strong relationship with the fans can maybe give you more time and unfortunately, I never felt Lee had that.”
