An update on the current Scotland squad has been confirmed by the Scottish FA.

Elliot Anderson's withdrawal from the camp has officially been announced by the SFA. 

He is joined by Motherwell goalkeeper Liam Kelly, who also drops out. 

Rangers back-up Robby McCrorie has been called up in his place, as he aims to impress alongside Angus Gunn and Zander Clark.

Steve Clarke's side faces another crucial Euro 2024 qualifier against Cyprus on Friday evening. 

Should Scotland get the win and other results go their way next week, then passage to the finals would be secured. 

A friendly match against England is also scheduled at Hampden Park next Tuesday night.

Anderson was forced to drop out of the squad and return to Newcastle after the 20-year-old picked up a knock in training on Tuesday.

He received his first international call-up by Clarke last week.

The midfielder is eligible to play for both Scotland and England until he has made a full cap for a country, having represented either country during his youth career.

But it seems that remains up in the air for now, with Anderson being forced to withdraw from the current Scotland camp through injury.

Meanwhile, John Carver found himself caught up in the ugly aftermath of the Old Firm game at Ibrox on Sunday as Rangers supporters who were furious at the Premiership defeat to their understrength city rivals Celtic revolted.

“Normally I leave before the end of games to get back down the road,” said the Scotland assistant yesterday after helping manager Steve Clarke oversee a training session at Lesser Hampden ahead of the Euro 2024 qualifier against Cyprus in Larnaca on Friday night.

“Because I was staying up here I stayed. But I couldn’t wait to get out because they were coming over the top of the directors’ box! Walking out, there were disgruntled fans trying to come through the front doors as well! It was a difficult situation.”

The excessive reaction of the hardcore element of the Rangers’ support to the disappointing derby loss, though, paled in comparison with the extreme response of the Omonia Nicosia diehards to a nine-game winning run coming to an end during his time as a manager in Cyprus back in 2017.
