Feyenoord star Quilindschy Hartman reckons their 'easy' win against Celtic in the Champions League was because they worked out how to stop their Japanese trio.

Celtic started their group stages campaign with a 2-0 loss in Rotterdam after Gustaf Lagerbielke and Odin Thiago Holm were sent off within five minutes of each other in the Netherlands.

And 21-year-old full back Hartman admitted it took them time to work out how to deal with Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate.

He said: "We started nervously and it was a struggle. Celtic had Asian players up front and they really pressed you so much. It was a different level than the Eredivisie.

"But they tired and we got more space with the sendings off. And in the end, it was a relatively easy victory for us.

"The manager told us at half time it would come for us and it did in the second half where we were far better.

"It was a dream for me because I have been at the club since I was a kid so to hear the Champions League anthem and then finally play in the tournament was unbelievable."

Meanwhile, Feyenoord have been boosted with the news that Luka Ivanusec's injury is not as bad as first feared.

The Croatian winger was stretchered off amid fears of a broken ankle.

But tests have revealed he has only sprained ankle ligaments and he is expected to be out for only a couple of weeks.
