Kevin Muscat is an 'outsider' for the Rangers job according to a BBC presenter.
Rangers are in the process of working through a list of candidates and final interviews will take place next week.
It was revealed last night that bookies' frontrunner Frank Lampard has been ruled out as an option by club insiders.
And Sportsound host Kenny McIntyre made the claim that Australian boss Muscat is behind others in the pack ahead of today's fixtures. Rangers are playing tomorrow against St Mirren in Paisley.
He outlined "I've been told it's Philippe Celement, Kevin Muscat, Pascal Jansen and Frank Lampard have all been spoken with. Lampard is no longer under consideration.
I've been told Muscat is an outsider. Clement is a free agent but has other suitors and Jansen is very much of interest."
