Ross McCausland is confident Rangers can repeat the club's European heroics of the not-so-distant past this season.

The 20-year-old - fresh from signing a new contract until the summer of 2027 - scored his first senior goal last night as Philippe Clement's side limped to a disappointing draw at home to Aris Limassol.

It's been quite the rise for the winger. Within the space of around six weeks, he made his European appearance for the club, which was then followed by his full Rangers and Nothern Ireland debuts. 

It was evident how much his goal meant to him on Thursday night, as he celebrated in front of the Ibrox crowd.

The youngster has great memories of the Europa League run Giovanni van Bronckhorst and his players went on during the 2021/22 campaign.

While that ended in heartache against Eintracht Frankfurt, McCausland showed his ambitions by insisting there's no reason the current group of players can't repeat the feat of reaching the final.

Asked about the run, he told the media: "Yeah, definitely. I was at the majority of the games in that run and I was in Seville as well.

"If we were to do that this year, which I think we've got a strong chance of doing, that would be amazing to be a part of.

"Rangers is such a big club - it's so well thought of in Glasgow and back home as well. The reaction I've had from the family, they're all proud as punch. They've been on my journey with me and it probably wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for them. The like of my friends, they're all buzzing as well."

Meanwhile, Clement was understanding of Rangers fan frustration following the club's lacklustre display.

The Ibrox side will travel to face Real Betis in the final group game knowing they ideally need a win to secure passage to the knockout rounds of the competition.
