Kris Boyd has delivered his Rangers transfer verdict on new signing Fabio Silva.
After joining Wolves from Porto in the summer of 2020 for what was then a club-record fee in the region of £35.6million, Silva had loan spells at both Anderlecht and PSV Eindhoven last season.
He has now arrived at Ibrox on loan as Philippe Clement looks to boost his attacking options heading into a hectic schedule of league, cup and European matches.
Boyd is unsure whether Silva will be the perfect fit for the current Rangers side, but he hopes his arrival will at least help to boost confidence in the final third.
Asked if the 21-year-old was a good signing, he told Sky Sports: "I don't know, I really don't know. He was obviously a wonderkid and he's now had a couple of loans at Anderlecht and PSV, they've been okay.
"I think it's an opportunity for him to come in and perform. But I just get the feeling that Rangers in that central position, we seen from Dessers at Celtic it was a really poor performance, they need someone that's going to take a grip of that position and say 'it's mine'.
"Is Fabio Silva that man? I'm not quite sure he's an out-and-out number nine either. Danilo is obviously missing. Do Rangers have to go out and get a proven goalscorer? If it's me, I would."
Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland has been heavily linked with Rangers in recent weeks and Boyd does reckon he would be a handy addition.
He added: "Looking at it, we're quite quick to dismiss players in this league sometimes. He's been over the course and distance in this league, he's scored goals in this league.
"For me, I wouldn't be against it. When you look at the money Rangers have spent in the summer. Would you have got more for your money spending that on Lawrence Shankland? You probably would."
