La Liga leaders Girona are reportedly "strongly interested" in a transfer move for Celtic star Matt O'Riley this month.

It's claimed the Spanish club, part of the City Group, have been monitoring the progress of the 23-year-old this season.

And Sky Sports suggest a transfer move for O'Riley could be launched this month with Girona hoping to keep up their unexpected title charge.

Sky Sports journalist Mark McAdam explained: "This concerns Celtic actually, and Brendan Rodgers. Girona are strongly interested in signing Celtic's Matt O'Riley, 23-year-old midfielder.

"Of course, he's played really well for Celtic this season, he's into double figures for goals as well, played in the Champions League.

"And we know that Girona are having the most incredible season, currently top of La Liga, I know Real Madrid have a game in hand, only one point separates the two sides.

"But Girona are a City Group club as well, owned by the same owners as Manchester City, and they have been monitoring the midfielder's progress throughout the course of this campaign.

"We know that Brendan Rodgers won't want to lose one of his star players but it's expected that they would be potentially in for him in this window before deadline day which is two weeks today.

"One to keep an eye on, Matt O'Riley interesting Girona."

O'Riley, signed from MK Dons for just £1.5million, has been a key player for Celtic under Rodgers this season with ten goals and ten assists from 28 games in all competitions.

Inter Milan were previously linked with a move for O'Riley with Aston Villa, West Ham, PSV Eindhoven and Atletico Madrid all credited with an interest in the player.

O'Riley is currently contracted to Celtic until May 2027 putting the Parkhead club in a strong position to negotiate a fee or hold onto the player.
