Rangers are closing in on their third January signing.

Oscar Cortes could be on his way to Glasgow with the Ibrox club on the brink of reaching an agreement with Ligue 1 side Lens for the attacker.

The deal will be an initial loan move, with Rangers obtaining the option to buy Cortes in the summer.

He is set to become Philippe Clement's third January recruit, with Fabio Silva and Mohamed Diomande already in the door. It's believed that Brazilian left-back Jefte might not be far away either.

The Ibrox boss has been working hard, along with his recruitment department, to bolster his squad amid their ongoing Premiership title battle with Celtic.

After his team's win over St Mirren on Saturday he warned fans to expect a busy few days before the window shuts on February 1.

Here's everything you need to know about Oscar Cortes.

Who is Oscar Cortes?

Cortes is a 20-year-old winger by trade.

He was born in Tumaco, Colombia on December 3, 2003.

He was part of Millionairos' youth academy before signing his first professional deal in May 2022. He made his debut for the club just days after turning 18.

The attacker is believed to have made a name for himself as a youth international for his country. He made his debut for the A-team on June 16 last year.

It was his form for Colombia's Under-20s and Millionairos that led to his big switch to French football with Lens last summer. He's made ten appearances this season, scoring four goals and notching two assists. Only four of those outings came in Ligue 1, though.

What kind of player is Oscar Cortes?

As stated, he is a winger.

He predominantly plays off the right, however, is believed to be more than comfortable playing on the left too. He is right-footed, so playing off the left allows him to cut in on his favoured side.

It's believed he can also be deployed in the number 10 position.

Rangers are pretty well stocked in that area though, with Todd Cantwell and Tom Lawrence in the team. Fabio Silva, although usually played as a striker, can also fill in there.

With Abdallah Sima out for up to three months though, it seems like a smart piece of business by Clement. Currently, only Ross McCausland can play off the right wing.
