Queen’s Park goalkeeper Callan McKenna is on the verge of deciding between one of three Premier League clubs for a transfer deadline move.
According to the Scottish Sun, Manchester United are first in the chase to secure the Scotland youth international’s signature with the Scottish Championship club expected to gain £350,000 in compensation.
It is believed this will include numerous add-ons with first-team progression and international caps also part of the deal.
This could potentially increase any financial agreement to over £1 million with the Hampden club receiving a cut of any future sell-on.
The 17-year-old from Rutherglen started his youth career at Hibernian before joining the then-Scottish League Two club’s youth academy at the age of 12 in 2018.
McKenna made his professional debut in a Scottish League Cup match against East Fife last July for Robin Veldman’s side before earning his first league start the following month, a 2-1 victory over Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
The Spiders, now under new manager Callum Davidson are currently second bottom of the Championship table, four points adrift of safety.
He was also selected in Brian McLaughlin’s Scotland under-17s squad for last year’s European Championships, while he has also represented the under-18s.
His early performances quickly piqued the interest of many clubs down south with Southampton, Arsenal and Brighton reported to have all been monitoring the young prospect last summer.
It is understood that Brighton and Southampton have continued to maintain tabs on the shot-stopper, alongside Burnley during the January window.
Those clubs could possibly edge out a transfer to Old Trafford, but the Red Devils are believed to be the young prospect’s preferred option.
