Ally McCoist is a huge fan of Neil Warnock.

The Rangers legend believes he will do well for Aberdeen between now and the end of the season, lighting up the Scottish game in the process.

However, the former Scotland international is extremely hopeful he endures a difficult start to life at the Dons as they travel to Ibrox tonight.

Warnock will take charge of his first game in Glasgow this evening having replaced Barry Robson who was sacked last week.

Should the visitors manage a second victory at Ibrox this season they would jump into the top six with games in hand over their rivals.

However, Philippe Clement's side need no bigger incentive to win than to go joint top of the Premiership with Celtic by taking all three points.

McCoist believes Aberdeen's lowly position of eighth in the Premiership is 'outrageous' for the Pittodrie club. He expects Warnock to ring the changes during his time in the north east.

Speaking on talkSPORT this morning though, while he wants to see his old pal do well, he is keen to see his own team avoid an early humbling on their own patch.

He said: "I want it on the record that I'm a big Neil Warnock fan and I hope he does well...but not tonight. I think it's great, I really do.

"What's this his 17th club? And he's probably been at some of those more than once in that period. It's just amazing.

"You say football's a drug to some people and it's never been more suited to a man other than Neil Warnock, because he just absolutely loves it. He lives and breathes it.

"I'm so pleased actually because I think he'll be great for Scottish football. Even if it's just until the end of the season, I think he'll brighten the place up.

"I think he'll get Aberdeen going. They're sitting in an outrageous position. Eighth for Aberdeen is completely and utterly unacceptable.

"So I would expect changes at Aberdeen, but hopefully not this evening!"
