Celtic made contact over a move for Mathias Kvistgaarden in January, it has been claimed.

The striker was last summer on the club's transfer wishlist, however, a deal could not be agreed.

The Hoops were believed to have made an offer for the Dane, 21, when Brendan Rodgers returned to Glasgow.

However, Brondby was not satisfied with the figures, so rejected that approach.

Things have gone quiet on the player and links to Celtic since, with Adam Idah becoming the club's latest attacking recruit last month.

However, Football Scotland reports that Celtic did speak with Brondby 'fairly late on' in the winter window about the possibility of signing Kvistgaarden.

They state that the champions were once again told about the fee that would be required, but also that a deal could not be struck as they didn't want to sell in the winter market.

As a result, it's claimed no official offer was tabled by Celtic, but with Idah's loan from Norwich only until the end of the season, the Hoops could make a fresh move for Kvistgaarden in the summer.

Meanwhile, pundit Gordon Dalziel insists Celtic were correct to hold onto James McCarthy during the January transfer window.

The 33-year-old, who last played for the Scottish Champions against Motherwell in October 2022, was the subject of interest from Greek side Volos.

They approached the Hoops about a possible loan move but the offer was rejected and Dalziel has given his thoughts on why the Republic of Ireland international has remained at Parkhead.

"You look at James McCarthy just quickly," he told Clyde One Superscoreboard. "I think that they rejected it because the club looked at the situation that was going to take him on loan and tried to use it to their advantage."
