Philippe Clement has been hailed for 'turning water into wine' at Rangers.

Simon Jordan believes if the Belgian continues his successful run at Ibrox then he could eventually attract interest from Premier League clubs.

However, in contrast, the former Crystal Palace owner reckons Brendan Rodgers is currently 'an imitation of himself' at Celtic.

Rangers last night went joint-top of the Premiership with a 2-1 victory over Aberdeen.

Celtic play catch-up tonight when they take on Hibernian at Easter Road. The champions will look to go three points clear of their arch-Glasgow rivals having played a game more.

Clement has wiped out the seven-point lead that the Hoops held over Rangers when he first arrived in Glasgow, though.

And while he certainly wasn't an advocate for Michael Beale, Jordan admits he likes the cut of Clement's jib.

He said on talkSPORT: "If Rangers had won by two clear goals they'd have gone top. Now, it's just moments in time and Celtic will probably take it back today but it sends out markers, you're back on top of the league. Rangers are now in the mix and this new manager has been a very good appointment. Souness is trying to lay claim to that now, isn't he? When he wanted Lampard.

"Words are cheap and if you back them up with outcomes then people subscribe to your words. When I saw him in the first press conference I thought 'Hmm, I like him'. It was quiet, assured, inherent belief. Not flamboyant, not over the top, just solid.

"And I'm not surprised. I wouldn't have pencilled in that they'd go on a 17-game unbeaten run until they came up short in the Old Firm game but I think they've got a good one there.

"But the tragedy for Rangers is if he continues to be as successful as he is, this side of the border will start to look as a potential opportunity. But that's early days yet.

"When you bring somebody in who's capable of doing what he's brought in to do, then you get outcomes. People overcomplicate this business, people act as if it's a science and put all these myths in place. Whereas guys that can do it just get on with it.

"We saw Michael Beale in there for a year and he wasn't capable of it. This other guy, who hasn't had a lot of difference in terms of personnel, has turned the proverbial water into wine."

On Celtic, he added: "I don't think Brendan Rodgers is at it, I think he's an imitation of himself. I think he's quite low-key in his press conferences, his side aren't great and Rangers could win this league.

"I think the balance of probability still errs on the side of Celtic but they're in a battle now. We've got a title race."
