Former St Johnstone striker Joe Gormley has revealed he faced a furious inquest after being caught attending a Celtic away match in Parkhead gear while playing for the Perth club.

The 34-year-old made just two appearances for St Johnstone in a failed loan move to Scotland back in 2016.

And aside from his game-time struggle, Gormley also landed himself a telling-off from club officials after being rumbled in a Celtic strip ahead of a match between Ross County and the Dingwall club.

Gormley was known to be a Celtic supporter but received stern words after being spotted in Celtic kit on the motorway on his way to the match while still on loan at McDiarmid Park.

On the Mentality Monsters podcast, Gormley revealed: "I've actually got a funny story from when I was at St Johnstone.

“I was obviously known for being a big Celtic fan and I am right friendly with a few folk in Glasgow. 

“I was like ‘Listen, is there any way I could go to a Celtic match?’ 

“Perth is near a motorway that goes through Glasgow to Ross County, and there’s me standing in the middle of a motorway wearing a Celtic top. 

“I go into training on Monday and the chairman pulls me and he’s like ‘What the f*** are you doing? You can’t be standing in a motorway, wearing a Celtic top, and playing for St Johnstone’.

“The captain and all was like ‘What? You’re playing for St Johnstone you can’t be doing that’. I was like ‘Oh s***’. I think after that the boys were probably like ‘f*** him’.”
