John Beaton was correct to award Rangers a penalty after initially booking Fabio Silva for simulation inside Celtic's box. 

That's the viewpoint of former Wales midfielder Robbie Savage.

Hoops hero Christ Sutton accused his fellow BBC pundit of 'noising him up' as they appeared on their Sunday night radio show together.

They discussed the day's action-packed football, including the 3-3 derby encounter between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox.

There was controversy as John Beaton decided to overturn his decision on Silva after an on-field VAR review. James Tavernier then stepped up from the spot to get Philippe Clement's side back into the game at 2-1.

Sutton was on co-commentary duty during the game for Sky Sports yesterday, as he slammed Silva for cheating and criticised the referee for changing his mind after reviewing the challenge by Alistair Johnston.

But Savage, speaking on BBC's 606 delivered his views on the matter, backing up the officials.

He said: "It was a great game and a fantastic watch for the neutral. It was a penalty, wasn't it? On Silva? It was the right call, definitely a penalty."

The Celtic hero butted in: 'You are just trying to noise me up now."

But an undeterred Savage continued: "It's a penalty, Chris. There was contact, it was knee high."

Sutton retorted: "There has to be sufficient contact, Rob. He went down all afternoon. There were many incidents before that and he goes down again.

"He is awarded a yellow card for simulation. Was it a clear and obvious error? Was there sufficient contact, Rob? Come on. You are just saying that."

Savage came back in: "I thought it was. There was four or five angles on the tele where you could definitely see it."

Sutton said: "He was on his way down already."

Savage concluded: 'He wasn't. I disagree."
