PHILIPPE Clement has warned his Rangers players they will be “in the s***” if they look any further ahead than their rescheduled cinch Premiership fixture against Dundee at Dens Park this evening.

The Ibrox club can still pip Celtic, who they will play at Parkhead on Saturday, May 11, to the Scottish title if they win all six of their remaining league matches despite the loss they suffered at the hands of Ross County in Dingwall last Sunday.

However, Clement, whose men are four points behind their city rivals heading into their rearranged game in hand on Tayside this evening, is firmly focused on his side’s encounter with their sixth-placed rivals.

And the Belgian has told his charges their title ambitions will suffer another serious blow if they allow their attention to wander to the fourth Old Firm game of the 2023/24 campaign or any of the post-split matches.

Asked if he was looking for Rangers to win all six of their remaining matches, he said: “I hope eight (they will play eight more games this season if they beat Hearts in their Scottish Gas Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden on Sunday).

“But I only look at one game – Dundee. Like we have been doing all season. The moment you start to think about six or eight or four weeks to go or five weeks to go and then it is holiday, then you will come in the s***.

Glasgow Times: “That is the worst thing you can do. That is the baddest thing you can do and it is the same as three months ago. It is going game by game, going full. It is about that, that is the way they did it and the way they are in this situation now, to be fighting for still a lot of things.

“That is what I expect tomorrow from the whole squad, every second of the game to go full with all their energy and not to think about what is going on a few days after. That is for afterwards.”

Meanwhile, Clement has congratulated Championship champions Dundee for securing a top six place in their first season back in the Premiership and defended their reaction to their 0-0 draw with Aberdeen.

Tony Docherty’s players were savaged online by fans of other Scottish clubs for celebrating with their supporters following the final whistle at Pittodrie on Saturday.

But the Rangers manager, who dismissed the criticism that his players received when they did a lap of honour following their 3-3 draw with Celtic at Ibrox earlier this month, feels they were right to do so.

“If people start to criticise because a team is celebrating something it’s because they don’t know how hard everybody works to achieve things,” he said. “So of course they celebrated to get top six. I think it’s a huge achievement and they did something special.

“So it is normal that they celebrate. It is only people who don’t understand this job that the manager, the players and everybody around the players is doing who can criticise that I think.”
