Steve Clarke is reportedly set to be named an uncapped player in his Scotland Euro 2024 squad. 

The Scottish Sun claims Liverpool starlet Ben Doak is in the frame for an unexpected call-up for the major tournament in Germany.

The 18-year-old could be on his way to the Euros this summer as a wildcard choice from Clarke.

The head coach recently saw his squad for the tournament increase from 23 players to 26. 

And Doak, formerly on the books of Celtic before moving to the Premier League giants, is set to benefit. 

The teenager, from Dalry, Ayrshire, hasn't featured at all for Liverpool this year due to a knee injury picked up in a Europa League match against Union Saint-Gilloise in December.

Despite that, he could follow in the footsteps of both Billy Gilmour and Nathan Patterson in making the jump from the national team's Under-21s to the A squad.

He's yet to be capped at senior level for Scotland, although is believed to have come close last June when Clarke was looking for alternatives in their crucial Euros qualifiers against Norway and Georgia.

So, it was hoped that Doak would've been integrated before the Euros, however, that will not put Clarke off giving the highly talented youngster a chance.

Meanwhile, having almost been lost to the professional game at one stage, it is little wonder that Lawrence Shankland wants to make hay while the sun is shining. As it certainly is now on the newly crowned PFA Scotland Premiership Player of the Year.

That’s not to say that he isn’t happy to be at Hearts. Or that he wouldn’t be fine with remaining at Tynecastle next season too, if that is what is best for his career. Shankland has a humility about him and a gratitude for his current station that was perhaps enhanced during his well-documented dalliance with the dole queue.

But the hunger that ultimately brought him to where he is today is still driving him on to test himself at the highest level he possibly can.
