Ross McCrorie has labelled his Scotland recall a real "honour" after being included in Steve Clarke's 28-man provisional squad for Euro 2024. 

The Bristol City defender missed the first part of the season due to a serious injury but displayed enough during his 22 appearances to convince the Scotland boss that he's worth including in his plans. 

That decision will have been made easier due to the fact first choice options, Aaron Hickey and Nathan Patterson, were both ruled out of the tournament. 

Celtic's Anthony Ralston has also been picked by Clarke but he has seen his game time limited. 

The Scotland head coach can only take 26 players on the plane to Germany, where they will face the hosts in the opening game before clashes against Hungary and Switzerland, and McCrorie couldn't speak highly enough about the opportunity he has been given. 

"For me personally, it is an honour to get called up to the national team," the former Aberdeen star stated.

"Considering the season that I've had, I had a terrible injury at the start, so it's a real honour to get called up. 

"I will just take it in my stride and it's just whatever happens, happens. I'm here to support the boys the best I can and if I do get that call at the end to start a game then yeah, I'd be really looking forward to it.

"For me, it's a real good group of boys here. There's real top quality players and we are all looking forward to getting going."

McCrorie, who's uncapped despite being among the Scotland camp previously, was extra excited that his recall to the camp has come with a major tournament on the horizon. 

He continued: "I think every player involved, they want to be involved in major tournaments and to get a call-up, especially with a big tournament like this coming up, I think it's only the second one in something like the last 10 years for Scotland. 

"So, it's a real honour and I'm sure it's the same for all the boys.

"I wouldn't be in the squad if I wasn't going to be challenging. As a footballer, you've got to take things in your stride and be confident in your own ability.

"I've played right-back, wing-back for the past three years. It's my main position.

"I'm ready. If you don't believe in yourself, you're never going to get anywhere. That's why the rest of the boys have to got to where they are, playing at a top level."
