A Celtic game had to be evacuated just before kick-off.

The Hoops played Manchester City at Chapel Hill's Kenan Memorial Stadium in North Carolina as part of their pre-season tour of the United States.

However, not long before kick-off, adverse weather resulted in the stadium being evacuated on Tuesday, the Scottish Sun reports.

North Carolina has been battered by storms and torrential downpours in the build-up to the game, with a storm delaying Celtic's open training session the day before.

Another warning before kick-off meant the teams were led indoors and the 50,000-capacity stadium evacuated.

A sign on the huge digital scoreboard overlooking the pitch showed both team logos and a warning to clear out.

It read: "SEVERE WEATHER EVACUATION - Please leave the seating area. Please evacuate Kenan Stadium. Please retain your mobile ticket for re-entry."

Thankfully fans were soon let back into the stadium and the game was allowed to go ahead at a slightly later time of 00:40 BST.

Celtic went on to beat the Premier League champions 4-3 with a doubler from Nicolas Kuhn and goals from Kyogo and Luis Palma.

Making the scoresheet for Pep Guardiola's men were Oscar Bobb, Maximo Perrone and Erling Haaland.
