Celtic transfer target Adam Idah was booed on his return to action for Norwich City.

The striker, 23, has been linked with a permanent transfer to Celtic all summer after a fruitful loan spell in Glasgow.

Idah was disciplined by Norwich earlier this week after going AWOL in pre-season.

The striker missed a flight with his team-mates to a training camp in Austria and then travelled to join the group alone.

As a result, Idah was not involved in a friendly against Hoffenheim but did return this afternoon as Norwich played St Pauli.

The Ireland internationalist came on as a sub in the second half and, according to Pink Un,  was greeted by a "smattering of boos" from the home support.

Manager Johannes Hoff Thorup had admitted the constant speculation of a move to Celtic may have influenced Idah's actions in missing the Austria flight but confirmed the player had apologised.

He said: “Of course, it'd be fair to say because he is a young boy. And this is maybe the first time in his career where there is so much attention on him and so many media stories and so on,

“I can completely understand that can be difficult for a football player to handle.

"So it will take some more conversations with him. And we will of course integrate him again and everyone will be there to support him.

“But it's also important for us to make it very, very clear that we have our rules internally. If you step out of that and do something that is not aligned with that then of course you cannot play with the rest of the group.

"But he is a good boy and I don't think it was on purpose. It was just too much going on.”

Brendan Rodgers said of a transfer move for Idah to return to Celtic: "Well, Adam’s a Norwich player.

"He did fantastic with us last season and we’ll just see what happens over the coming weeks."
