A warning has been issued to Rangers and Celtic fans ahead of this weekend.

ScotRail is urging footy fans from both sides to 'plan ahead' when travelling to each club's matches.

On Saturday, Rangers will take on Ross County at Hampden Park in Glasgow at 3pm.

Ahead of the game, the rail firm has said more seats will be added to trains to and from Mount Florida in the Southside.

However, ScotRail has urged Gers supporters heading to the match to expect queuing times to be longer, to allow extra travel time, and to make their way to Mount Florida station after the match to travel back to the city centre.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, St Mirren will play Celtic in Paisley at 12pm.

Additionally, those travelling to the Edinburgh Festivals and the Women's Open at St Andrews over the weekend are also being advised to 'plan ahead'.

ScotRail has issued the travel advice due to fewer services operating because of the temporary timetable which is currently in place.

However, to support travel to and from the events, ScotRail is adding as many carriages as possible to services.

The travel companyy has also issued a reminder of the changes to support the Edinburgh Festivals:

The changes are:

  • Extra carriages to late-night services leaving Edinburgh, with an additional express service to Glasgow Queen Street via Falkirk High departing after midnight at 12.15am (except on Sunday night/Monday morning).
  • Half-hourly service throughout the day and extra late-night trains from Edinburgh Waverley to Glasgow Queen Street via Falkirk High until the end of the festivals excluding Sundays. This is compared with the hourly service from 7pm under the current temporary timetable.
  • Sundays will see an hourly service operate on the express service between Glasgow and Edinburgh via Falkirk High.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail Customer Operations Director, said: “This will be another busy weekend for travel across Scotland’s Railway and we are doing everything we can to help customers get to the final events of the Edinburgh Festivals, and the football in Glasgow.

“Customers are reminded that with the temporary timetable currently in place, there are fewer services than normal in operation. But to support both the football and the Edinburgh Festivals, we’ve made changes to our temporary timetable, including extra seats and services and late-night trains to get people to and from Edinburgh.

“With trains expected to be busier than usual, we’re encouraging everyone to allow extra time for travel, don’t wait for the last train of the night if you can, and check their journey in advance via our online journey planner.

“Buying return tickets before you board using our mTicket system on our mobile app will help your journey run smoothly.”

A spokesperson for ScotRail added: "Extra staff will be on hand to make sure everything goes smoothly, and the train operator is also reminding everyone that the carrying and consumption of alcohol is prohibited on ScotRail trains and in ScotRail stations. "
