Mikey Johnston is expected to re-sign for West Bromwich Albion after a £3million bid was accepted on Wednesday.

The Celtic winger spent the second part of the 2023/24 season on loan at the English Championship outfit, and impressed during his 20 appearances by netting seven goals and providing a further two assists.

He returned to Celtic for pre-season but it was made evident that he clearly wasn’t in the long-term plans.

The 25-year-old had to settle for one substitute appearance against Hibernian in early August before not being seen on the pitch since.

Celtic gave Sheffield United the green light to pursue a transfer for the man who has been on their books since he was kid, and a £2.5m package was understood to have been finalised.

That meant it was left to Johnston to sort personal terms, however after some deliberation, West Brom have swooped in two days prior to the transfer deadline, and it’s thought the Republic of Ireland international could even complete a medical at The Hawthorns on Thursday.

In other news, Celtic are still actively pursuing a transfer for Sheffield United defender Auston Trusty after landing Alex Valle on loan from Barcelona on Wednesday morning.

Reports indicate that their initial bid of £5m was rejected, but discussions between the two clubs are ongoing.

With Friday's deadline fast approaching, Celtic are keen to bolster their defence following the departures of fringe players Yuki Kobayashi and Gustaf Lagerbielke, who have joined Portimonense and FC Twente, respectively.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers also wants to acquire Arne Engels from Augsburg but could be forced to splash out a club-record fee to land the midfielder, who they hope can help with the vacancy left by Brighton-bound Matt O'Riley.

Rodgers has publicly stated that he'd prefer to recruit two new players for O'Riley's old position, however its thought Los Angeles FC's Mateusz Bogusz won't be one of them after negotiations hit a standstill.
