The dates and times of Celtic's Champions League fixtures have been confirmed by UEFA this lunchtime. 

The Scottish Premiership champions know all eight of their opponents following Thursday night's draw in Monaco. 

They will take on the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Aston Villa and Atalanta in the coming months as part of the new league-phase format for the world's greatest club competition.

With Gianluigi Buffon drawing balls from four pots and Cristiano Ronaldo sporadically pressing a button in order to part-automate the draw, Thursday night's event marked a new dawn for European football's flagship competition.

The Parkhead side will play, RB Leipzig (H), Borussia Dortmund (A), Atalanta (A), Club Brugge (H), Young Boys (H), Dinamo Zagreb (A), Slovan Bratislava (H), and Aston Villa (A), but Celtic had to wait until Saturday, August 31 to find out when these fixtures will be played.

Why are the Champions League fixtures being announced on Saturday?

There was always a slight delay when allocating each group's fixtures in the previous UEFA Champions League draw format, but now clubs (and fans) are made to wait days before each fixture date is confirmed.

The reason for this is that UEFA will use this time to converse and liaise with each member country's domestic leagues, so as to avoid scheduling clashes and the possibility of multiple games in the same city on the same day.
