New Celtic signing Auston Trusty will "cruise it" in Scotland. That's according to former Rangers defender Danny Wilson who played alongside him in the United States.

The USA internationalist, 26, signed a five-year deal at Celtic on deadline day as he completed a £6m move from Sheffield United.

Trusty had been a regular for Sheffield United in the Premier League last season but left the club for Parkhead after relegation to England's second tier.

The centre-back is on the bench against Rangers after his transfer switch, and former team-mate Wilson has tipped Trusty for a trophy-laden spell in Scotland.

The pair played together at Colorado Rapids in the MLS and Wilson is convinced Trusty has all the attributes to succeed in Scotland.

Wilson told The Scottish Sun: “Auston’s a modern day centre-back in terms of athletic ability and stature.

“He’s 6ft 3in, he’s left footed, he’s like the wind – he’s rapid.

“Auston’s going to be very successful at Celtic, I’m sure.

“I think he will cruise it in Scotland and he’ll relish the challenge of Champions League football.”

After completing his move to Celtic, Trusty said:  "I feel ecstatic. It’s just such an historic and amazing club, and it’s a club I’ve known about since I was a little kid.

"Growing up in Philadelphia, football wasn’t such a popular sport but I knew Celtic, I knew who Celtic were. It’s a dream come true to join this club and such a massive organisation.

"The manager told me to be the best that I can be, that’s off the pitch, as a teammate and everything on the pitch.

"He said that he believes in me and believes in everything I can do, it’s up to me and he’ll provide me with the environment where I can thrive.

"I’m looking forward to meeting all the guys as well. From what I’ve heard it’s a great environment around the club too so I’m looking forward to it."
