Celtic have this afternoon announced the loan departure of two youngsters.

Both Matthew Anderson and Ben Summers, who have been previously involved with the first-team, have joined Austrian second-tier outfit Admira Wacker on one-year temporary spells.

Left-back Anderson spent last season on loan with Admira where he made 22 appearances, scoring one goal and setting up six.

He will look to kick on after playing a few times for the Hoops’ senior team during pre-season.

Summers, on the other hand, is heading abroad for the first time in his young career.

The 20-year-old played for Scottish Championship outfit Dunfermline last term but failed to make a considerable impact. Now, he is heading to mainland Europe, and will have a familiar face in Anderson.

The pair are heading to Admira Wacker due to Celtic’s partnership with the Austrian club.

The relationship kickstarted last summer and saw the Bhoys send Anderson and goalkeeper Tobi Oluwayemi out on loan to the side.

Admira have once more benefitted from the partnership and are getting two Scottish youth internationals added to their ranks for the campaign.

They finished sixth in the 2. Liga last term, but have started this season respectably, winning four out of their six competitive matches so far.

Manager Thomas Silberberger will hope the latest acquisitions can improve his side’s current run and help them get back to the Austrian Bundesliga for the first time since 2022.

While Anderson and Summers will want to help Admira progress, though, their key focus will be their own development as players.

Both remain tender in age yet will aim to come back to Celtic next summer and challenge for places in the first team.

Few academy products have become regulars at Parkhead in recent times, but perhaps Anderson or Summers could break the mould after their spells in Austria.
