Popular stats site Sofascore has named its Team of the Week after the opening fixtures of the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League – naming two Celtic stars in its best-of lineup.
Liam Scales and Arne Engels feature alongside some of European club football's best, including the likes of Bayern Munich's Harry Kane, Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann and Manchester City's Joško Gvardiol.
Scales was awarded UEFA's Man of the Match at Celtic Park after Wednesday night's 5–1 victory over Slovak champions Slovan Bratislava, whereas Engels scored and assisted during his second start under Brendan Rodgers.
According to Sofascore, Scales accrued a rank of 8.1, with Engels receiving a 9.2. For the sake of context, four-goal-scorer Kane was given a perfect 10.

After a historic win on Tuesday, it's no wonder Bayern players lead the way in our first UEFA Champions League TOTW of 2024/25! 🟥⬜️
Unsurprisingly, Harry Kane's perfect 🔟 Sofascore Rating was enough for him to earn our #UCL Player of the week award. 🏅 pic.twitter.com/8GWJ36IDSw
Celtic's 5-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava marked their biggest win in the competition, and their highest-scoring – the club's 4-3 victory over Juventus on October 31, 2001 the previous holder of that particular record.
Celtic return to domestic action this Sunday, September 22, when they host Falkirk in the Scottish League Cup at Celtic Park.
