Rangers have issued a perfect social media comeback to Malmo after their win the the Europa League.

Philippe Clement's side claimed a 2-0 victory over the Swedish club in their first outing in the revamped league phase of the competition.

Nedim Bajrami and Ross McCausland were on the scoresheet for Rangers in the comfortable win.

Ahead of the match, Malmo had stoked their rivalry with Rangers by reminding them of the times the clubs met previously in Champions League qualifying.

Making reference to Rangers' playing in the Third Division after their contest in 2011 before mentioning finishing runners-up in the Europa League in 2022.

A short video on the Malmo FF social media channels - showing highlights of meetings between the clubs - read: "When we met in 2011 you ended up in the fourth division.

"When we met in 2021 you ended up in the Europa League final.

After Thursday night's result with Rangers claiming victory over a Swedish club for the first time, a cheeky social media comeback was posted on the official X account.

In a callback to Malmo's video, a post sharing a celebration shot of Bajrami after his opener just 56 seconds in read: "😜 Thanks for the warm welcome, @Malmo_FF. 

"Missing you already."

Unable to argue with the comeback, a post from Malmo simply responded: "Fair enough 🤝"
