Celtic captain Callum McGregor believes memories of their famous Europa League victory in Rome can inspire the Hoops to their second ever win on Italian soil.
In 2019, Neil Lennon’s men took down Lazio at the Olympic Stadium with a stunning stoppage time winner from Olivier Ntcham to secure a place in the Europa League knockout stages.
As Celtic prepare to face Atalanta on matchday three of the Champions League this evening, McGregor says a win in Bergamo would top that night in Rome.

The 31-year-old said: “It was an amazing night, and you still remember the scenes after the game. It was right up there. I think the one thing that game teaches you is that you have to be concentrated at this level, and you have got to ride your luck a little bit as well.”
He continued: “It was all set up for us as we were doing well in the group, and we were doing well in the game before. We carried that in with us and we had a strong squad then and we have a similar type of squad now. We are possibly not as physical, but the profile of the team is that we are quick and good with the ball, and we have to try and play to our strengths as well.
“If we got a result here? I think it would probably top Lazio, just in terms of the competition. It’s an experienced, strong team, so if you can come here and get a result in the Champions League, it would be a huge positive.”
