Rangers legend Ally McCoist has revealed his hilarious encounter with a member of the Royal Family.

The former Gers icon told how he randomly bumped into Prince William while on a flight to Aberdeen.

The 62-year-old, who was travelling to the Scottish city from Heathrow Airport in London, said he was sitting in row three on his flight when another traveller asked if he could move seats.

Speaking to Vernon Kay on BBC Radio 2, the football icon said: "So, I've jumped on the plane - just a normal Heathrow to Aberdeen (flight).

"So, I'm sitting down and a guy comes up and taps me and I look at him. He said: 'You couldn't do me a favour could you?', and I said: 'Yeah sure, no problem at all'.

"He said: 'You wouldn't mind sitting in that seat behind, would you?'. I thought, 'That's a bit strange' but I said I didn't have a problem with it."

Ally revealed he then got up and sat down in the seat behind and then 'stuck his head' in his book for the flight.

However, once the aircraft landed, Ally hilariously found out exactly who he moved seats for.

He said: "We came into land and as we landed a head came between the seats and it says, 'Thanks very much for moving there, I really appreciate it'.

"I double-take, it's Prince William. So I said, 'It's a pleasure, sir, no bother at all'.

"He then said to me, 'Anyway, what's your take on John McGinn?'. I went, 'Smashing, fantastic, he'll do well'."

Ally added: "He then got up and away he went, down the stairs and I could never forget it, he goes straight into his Range Rover, which was parked at the bottom of the stairs and away he went."
