Dumbarton FC have surpassed their £50,000 fundraising target, with a new aim now set.

The Sons went into administration on Monday, November 18, after club officials announced they were left with "no option" after appointing Quantuma, a business advisory firm, to manage the process.

Police Scotland confirmed on Thursday, November 21 that enquiries are ongoing into a report of suspected fraud at the club on October 29.

The GoFundMe, which was set up on the day the club were plunged into administration, currently sits at over £59,000 at the time of publication, with a new target of £100,000 being set.

The fundraiser reads: “Support the fighting fund to save our club.

“Due to the club not receiving financial support from the majority shareholder or monies owed to it, the directors took the hard decision to put the club into administration in order to find a solution to overcome its financial challenges.

"We would greatly appreciate any support you can give.”

The club's financial troubles have since led to them being deducted 15 points by the Scottish Professional Football League, which puts them bottom of Scottish League One.

The most recent accounts for The Dumbarton Football Club, covering the year to May 31, 2023, show that the club was due to receive gross proceeds of £1,848,000 from the sale of land to a related party.

It sold a piece of land on April 29, 2021, to More Homes DFC Limited, a subsidiary of the club's majority shareholder, Cognitive Capital. The balance of the £1,848,800 was due to be paid in instalments, of £300,000 in April 2023, and £1,548,000 in April 2026.

However, the total amount remains outstanding, note the accounts, which state that the recovery of the money is "dependent on the successful completion of a residential development on the land sold".
