Philippe Clement has broken his silence on incoming Rangers chief executive Patrick Stewart.

The Ibrox club announced earlier this week that former Manchester United CEO Stewart will take up the post in Glasgow next month.

Stewart will officially begin his role at Rangers on December 16.

Now, ahead of the Europa League match against Nice, Clement has insisted he is "looking forward" to Stewart joining the club with the "very important" vacancy finally filled.

Quizzed on Stewart being named CEO, Clement said: "It is very important and I'm happy that he (Patrick Stewart) has been appointed as CEO and look forward to him joining in a few weeks.

"Looking forward to the club taking a step forward again."

John Gilligan said of Stewart's appointment: “On behalf of the board, I’m delighted to welcome Patrick to the club as CEO.

“Patrick comes with an excellent reputation and background, bringing extensive experience of operating at senior levels during his 20-plus years in football.

“The board continues in discussions with several excellent candidates for the role of Chairperson and expect to make an announcement of an appointment in the coming weeks.”
