Giovanni van Bronckhorst has broken his silence after being sacked by Besiktas.

The former Rangers manager was relieved of his duties by the Super Lig club just five months after being appointed. Van Bronckhorst led Besiktas in 20 matches before being sacked by club chiefs.

 In his first match, Van Bronckhorst lifted the Turkish Super Cup with a thumping 5-0 win over Galatasaray.

However, the club are 13 points off the pace in the league table, currently sitting in fifth with 22 points from their 13 matches.

In Europe, Besiktas are 22nd in the Europa League league phase with a shot of progress into the play-off round as the top 24 clubs qualify. The club are currently on a four-match winless run.

Van Bronckhorst acknowledged the need for results in football management as he released a lengthy message on social media after being dismissed.

However, the former Ibrox boss also stated: "the future direction of any football club is not only determined by one person in the dugout".

In a statement on his personal Instagram, Van Bronckhorst wrote: "Although, I am sad and disappointed to leave so soon after becoming Manager of Besiktas, I feel it is important to acknowledge the many positives that I experienced working in Turkey, even in a short time.

"Like previous roles, I approached this job with passion, a desire to succeed as the potential of the club really excited me. The Turkish people and particularly, the fans of Besiktas welcomed me and made me feel like “one of their own.”

"Turkey is a country with a rich culture and the passion for football is evident for all to see. For that, I will always be grateful.

"The feeling after winning the Turkish Super Cup is right up there with some of my most cherished football achievements. The huge crowd, the passion from the fans and the burning desire from my players was fantastic. To regain this trophy for Besiktas, for the first time in almost two decades was very satisfying.

"I must acknowledge the hard work of my players and staff. If I had been granted more time, I feel that I could have developed and strengthened a squad with huge potential. Please keep working, you are a fantastic group.
