DAVE MACKAY was a legendary figure with Hearts, Tottenham and Derby County during his playing days and was capped 22 times for Scotland...

JIMMY (Garrowhill) - After hearing the sad news of Dave Mackay's death on Monday night brought to mind the iconic image in the Scottish Football Museum of the Tottenham player grabbing Billy Bremner by the neck of his jersey in a threatening gesture and the referee rushing towards them. Do you have information on the incident and how the referee dealt with it?

The incident took place on August 20, 1966, in the opening game of the 1966/67 season when Spurs hosted Leeds United at White Hart Lane.

Mackay had come back the previous season from having his leg broken on two occasions, and was therefore upset by what he thought was an overzealous tackle by Bremner on the leg that had suffered the breaks.

As the image shows, Mackay reacted by grabbing Bremner by the jersey in a threatening manner.

The referee, Norman Burtenshaw, was quickly on the scene to prevent escalation of the incident, but neither booked or sent them off, choosing only to lecture both players.

Spurs won the match 3-1, one of the goals being scored by another Scot Alan Gilzean.

J. BOYD (Bishopbriggs) - Do you have any information on a high-scoring League Cup victory for Rangers against St Johnstone in the early 1960s.

You may be thinking of a League Cup section game which took place at Muirton Park on August 15, 1964.

A spectacular display by Rangers left St Johnstone on the wrong end of a 9-1 scoreline.

Jim Forrest scored four of the Rangers goals with the rest shared by George McLean (2), Ralph Brand (2) and Jim Baxter.

Man of the match, however, was Willie Henderson, who did more than anyone to demoralise St Johnstone with his mesmerising wing play helping to set up four of the goals.

Saints consolation goal was scored by McLindon but it was Rangers night by a long way.

Teams:

St Johnstone: Fallon, McFadyen, Coburn, McCarry, Richmond, Dickson, Flanagan, McLindon, Whitelaw, Kerry, Kemp.

Rangers: Ritchie, Shearer, Provan, Greig, McKinnon, Baxter, Henderson, McLean, Forrest, Brand, Wilson.

R. LAVETY (Glasgow) - I know goalkeeper Jonathan Gould won two Scotland caps whilst with Celtic. Do you have the dates, results and opposition for both games.

His first cap was against Lithuania on October 9, 1999, at Hampden when Scotland won 3-0 with goals by Hutchison, McSwegan and Cameron.

His second cap was against Australia on November 15, 2000, also at Hampden when Scotland lost 2-0.

There were 22,000 at the Lithuania game and 31,000 at the Australia match.
